One great aspect to propane is that it is abundantly found domestically. The United States imports plenty of its fossil fuels. This would save on imports if more people were to use propane. Even though all gases are flammable, propane tanks tend to be much more durable than a regular gas tank. For those seeking safety, this might be a great option. When compared with other gasoline, propane is less flammable overall.
Though propane is obviously much better than regular gasoline and diesel, it is still not the best possible fuel source. It does have some emissions and it is not as natural as other things that are currently under investigation. Consumers have a large role to play when it comes to finding a fuel solution that we can all live with. Making the choice to use propane is personal and should be based on facts. 20LB of Liquid Propane Cylinder last how many times of grills?
It's all about BTU's...Look at the rating plate on the grill and see how many btu's it is. The average grill is about 40,000 btus. That is with all of the burners on full heat.
There is roughly 20,000 btu's in a pound of propane. So multiply that by 20lbs and you have roughly 400,000 btus of propane in a cylinder. Divide that by 40,000 btu's and you get 10! That means that this particular grill will run 10 hours on full heat on a single 20lb cylinder. If you turn the heat down at all or only use half of the grill, it will obviously extend this time somewhat.
Sooo.. take the btu's on your rating plate and divide it into 400,000 and that is how many hours of cooking you have per cylinder.
